Temi di ricerca
The primary objective of my research project is to deepen the knowledge of the conservation history of art artifacts of the modern age in the Piedmont area, particularly focusing the research on the pictorial genre of portrait. It’s planned to focus, first of all, on paintings created between the 17th and the first half of the 18th century, time period in which court art in Piedmont reached its peak. Through the analysis of publications, archival papers, and photographic documents, an attempt will be made to gather as much information as possible regarding the exhibition histories, changes in location, restorations - and any damage suffered in the past - related to the artifacts examined, to reconstruct their conservation history and critical reception, aspects sometimes somewhat neglected by studies.
The final part of the work will be related to the digitization of the results and data collected, or part of them: such an operation appears to be extremely relevant not only in order to optimize the data storage, but also from the point of view of wide dissemination of the data, among specialists in the field but also – and, perhaps, above all – among laymen: the accessibility of information regarding preservation and the effective communication of activities related to it are indeed indispensable aspects of preservation, as they make the public participatory in the activities of safeguarding the heritage that belongs to them.
