Il Tuber magnatum Picco in Piemonte: natura e cultura alla base di un mercato di richiamo internazionale/The Tuber magnatum Picco: nature and culture at the basis of an international market
The enhancement of the prized white truffle, a natural forest resource, is a successful component alongside viticulture and enology of the tourism development of Langhe, Roero and Monferrato.
While in earlier centuries the truffle had already represented a prestigious product for nobles and nobility and an international promotional gift from the Savoy dynasty, it was in the twentieth century with the Alba Truffle Fair (1929) that an activity began to spread knowledge of this product until it reached international prominence. Over time numerous other fair events were added in southern Piedmont. The historical reconstruction of this path allows us to grasp the original characteristics, constant aspects and evolution of the truffle market, related events and promotional work. Over the decades, and particularly in the last thirty years, there has been an increasing connection of the product with cultural experiences that have ranged from haute cuisine, art, and design, and with charitable initiatives such as the International Truffle Auction, making the experience of this area original and of reference even at the international level, closely connected to tourism development.
