RESEARCH:
Biography: Alper Aslan has completed his Bachelor's degree and Master's degree in Archaeology at the Dokuz Eylül University, İzmir, Türkiye. His studies focused on the Early Bronze Age period of Western Anatolia.
Doctoral Thesis Research Topic: "Long-term Population Dynamics and Human-Environment Interactions from the Chalcolithic to the Iron Age in the Eastern Anatolian Highlands, Türkiye". During this period, the Eastern Anatolian Highlands experienced significant shifts in subsistence strategies, settlement strategies and population social structures. The objective of the project is to investigate the long-term population dynamics and human-environment interactions to better understand the complex interplay between humans and their environment over the longue-dureé in a regional scale.
Methodology: Archaeological survey data will be used as a proxy to infer long-term demographic trends. Probabilistic approaches will be applied to mitigate the temporal uncertainties of archaeological data. Paleoenvironmental proxies will be used to reconstruct changes in land cover and climate in the Eastern Anatolian Highlands.
Supervisors: Alessio Palmisano (Department of Historical Studies), Guido Stefano Mariani (Department of Earth Sciences)
